Celebrating a Royal Wedding in Manchester

As we all know, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Wedding is coming up very soon and it's definitely a cause for celebration! Whether you're just looking for somewhere to watch the Royal Wedding or planning a huge street party for all the neighbours, we can help you out!

It's a fact - the British love a good wedding. So when it's a Royal Wedding, this is even more of a cause for celebrating! Prince Harry and Megan Markle are tying the knot on 19th May, and it's probably going to be one of the biggest days of the year for the Royals. So don't let it go unmissed, celebrate!

Find where to watch the Royal Wedding

We can guarantee that everyone is going to be buzzing about the Royal Wedding, including all the pubs. So why don't you pop down to your local in Manchester and celebrate with the fantastic community around you? With an excitable atmosphere, beers flowing and fantastic food on hand, we can't think of anywhere better to watch the Royal Wedding! If you're struggling to think of a good pub to watch it in, click here to see our pubs guide.

Hold a Street Party

Holding a street party sounds like a lot of work, but if everyone does their bit, it can be hassle free! Invite your guests, ask around for the essentials like gazebos, garden furniture and of course, lots of booze, and you're good to go! Remember to get everyone involved - even if one person brings something along with them, that makes your job much easier. Lay out some buffet food, find the biggest TV on the street and enjoy!

How to make your Street Party a good one!

1. Bake a Cake! Add little touches to make the street party unique and original - Kensington Palace announced that Harry and Meghan would be serving a lemon and elderflower cake at the wedding. Why not bake up something similar for all your guests to give them a true Royal experience?

2. Encourage Dressing Up! With a Royal occasion, it's in the rule book that you HAVE to establish a smart, but fun dress code. You could even challenge your guests to dress up as a certain member of the Royal family and have everyone guessing!

3. Set a Royal Theme: With an occasion like a Royal Wedding, you have to go all out on the London themed bunting, posters, napkins, plates, everything you can find. This helps set the tone of the party and gets everyone in the celebratory spirit!

4. Decoration: Not only do you want London themed decorations, you'll want to go even further and decorate with flowers and photos. Given that Meghan loves peonies, we think that having these floating around the party would be fantastic! You could also put up photos of the Royal family to give it even more of a Windsor occasion.

5. Invest in flags! Flags are a small touch but your guests will love it. Give each person a Union Jack flag of their own to wave whilst the wedding is taking place for maximum excitement!

6. Themed Tea: Since it's such a special occasion, go the extra mile by offering out the perfect tea blend to your guests - made with white tea, vanilla and pink rose buds.

7. Games! Although lots of the guests will be invested in the Royal Wedding itself as well as chatting amongst others, there's bound to be some people who are keen to play games. Ramp the excitement up by getting the poker chips out and making some bets on which rumoured guests will actually turn up!

8. Food: Food is obviously important at an event like this, but even more so with a Royal Wedding party as you'll want to make it royal themed. Try and keep the food traditional and relating to the royals, with things like fruitcake, which is one of the Royal Wedding's favourites. Take a look at the types of food served at Royal Weddings in history too, and take your pick on what your guests might be into.

So there we have it! Here are a few ideas of how you can make this Royal Wedding a memorable one! If you have any other ideas or have your own way of celebrating the Royal Wedding, be sure to tweet us at @TotalManchester!
