Revealed: Manchester ranked 6th for the best places to live in the UK for teachers

Results are in from a recent study undertaken by Randstad, listing the best places to live within the UK for teachers to live. Manchester came 6th out of the top 13 best cities for teachers looking to save a deposit and/or buy a house. The study took average salaries and property prices into consideration to create the price index, consisting of multiple UK locations where a teacher could save a 15% house deposit in the shortest time frame.

Manchester is known nationally for its industrial heritage, popular social scene and with two world-famous football teams to support, you won’t run out of things to do. Recently, The Sunday Times School Guide, reported that Manchester had 77 of the UK’s top performing schools. The schools guide ranks schools, sixth forms and academies according to the percentage of students achieving A* to B grades.

Teach Manchester could be responsible for the exceptional achievements by some Manchester educational institutions. A local partnership working with schools and colleges to help schools provide everything needed for students to strive for outstanding performance.

Not surprisingly, average property prices in Manchester are 40% then those in the London. The average deposit needed is £29,550 in comparison to £70,800 needed to own a property in London. With it taking 6 years and 10 months for a teacher on a solo salary to save the deposit needed by saving 20% of their salary.

If you are looking for a high quality of living and fantastic job opportunities, Manchester should be considered.

Victoria Short, managing director of Randstad Public Services said:

“Home ownership is the dream of most workers hoping to work their way up the property ladder but as our guide shows location influences how much teachers need to save to realise that ambition.

“It’s no surprise average house prices are highest in London and while the capital offers workers an attractive mix of jobs and lifestyle options, our guide shows where in the country teachers can do the job they love with the bonus of more affordable housing and cheaper rent.”
