Manchester Revealed As One of The Least Lazy Cities in the UK- Residents Hit Snooze Button Twice Each Morning

New research has revealed the cities in the UK where residents are most likely to delay getting out of bed, with those in Plymouth, Bristol and Newcastle mostly likely to hit the snooze button each morning, while the least likely come from Manchester, Brighton and London.

Britons hit snooze on their alarms an average of eight times a day – clocking up 11 days, 15 hours and 36 minutes of extra snoozing each year – according to a new survey.

www.Web-Blinds.com polled 3,884 UK adults aged 18 and over as part of the research into the morning routines of Britons. Each participant worked in a full-time, 9-5 job, and there were an equal number of male and female respondents. All those taking part hailed from the UK’s 25 most populated cities.

Participants were first asked how they woke up each morning for work: 59% used an app on their mobile phone; 22% used a traditional alarm clock; 12% were woken by their partner or children; 4% woke up naturally.

The 81% of individuals who relied on an alarm then revealed how often they hit snooze, with the average being eight times and with nine minutes being the average length of snooze.

By city, the snooze capitals of the UK were revealed as:

1.       Plymouth – 14 (number of ‘snooze’ hits each morning)

2.       Bristol - 13

3.       Newcastle - 13

4.       Leicester- 12

5.       Glasgow – 12

In comparison, the least likely cities for snoozing were revealed as:

1.       Manchester - 2

2.       Brighton – 2

3.       London – 3

4.       Belfast – 3

5.       Swansea – 4

The main reasons for using the snooze function were wanting to ‘get up more gradually’ (34%), ‘intending to wake up earlier but then preferring to stay in bed (26%), ‘giving in to tiredness’ (21%) and their bed being ‘too comfy’ (12%).

Finally, taking into account the average number of working days per year (233 days) and the average length between snoozes (9 minutes), Britons spend a total of 11 days, 15 hours and 36 minutes snoozing each year.

Kirsty Martin, spokesperson for www.Web-Blinds.com said:

“There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a long snoozing session, as long as you don’t accidently turn your alarm off altogether and end up late for work!”
