Free-Flowing City are a Must Watch this Season in Premier League Crown Pursuit

Manchester City put down a marker in their bid to win the Premier League crown for the first time since the 2013/14 season.

The Citizens hammered Liverpool 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium as Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus notched two goals apiece, while Sergio Aguero opened the scoring.

However, the scoreline did not reflect a true pattern of the game as Pep Guardiola’s men were on the back foot for the early stages of the contest.

The dismissal of Sadio Mane turned the fixture on its head, allowing City to romp to victory in the second half.

City at their free-flowing best are unstoppable and will be sure candidates to battle for the title to the bitter end, being backed in the latest football betting odds at 5/4 to win the crown.

Guardiola spent heavily once again during the summer to acquire Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy, Danilo, Bernardo Silva and Ederson. The club spent over £200m to secure the signatures of the five players, although there was an exodus of full-backs from the previous campaign.

Ederson was a central figure in the sending off of Mane in the contest against Liverpool. He bravely came off his line to head clear and was clattered by the Senegalese.

The 23-year-old has also proven to have stronger decision-making skills than his predecessor between the sticks – Claudio Bravo – and looks to be the long-term solution Guardiola would have hoped for after Bravo’s struggles last term.

Mendy has been an instant hit at the club and his foraging runs into the final third created two of City’s goals against Reds, while he also wreaked havoc against Bournemouth down the left flank. At the age of 23, he will only improve pushing forward, but also in his defensive duties.

However, one of the most pleasing aspects for Guardiola of their win over Liverpool is the blossoming relationship between Aguero and Jesus in the final third. The Argentine has been a model of consistency since joining the club in 2010 and his brilliance has never been in question.

City have been over-reliant on their main man for too long, halting their further quest to dominate the Premier League along with success in the Champions League.

The arrival of Jesus in January appeared to signal that those days were over, although his foot injury ruled him out for three months after making an excellent start to his career at the Etihad.

The Brazilian has continued his impressive start to life in England this season, scoring three times already this term, including his brace against Liverpool.

For the second of his strikes, Aguero squared the ball to his team-mate to slam home from close range, highlighting the connection between the pair.

Their partnership in the final third will be extremely important throughout the campaign for City to challenge on all fronts.

Should they live up to their potential – both players are more than capable of scoring over 20 goals each, which could be enough to deliver the Premier League crown and perhaps more for Guardiola’s men, making a visit to the Etihad Stadium a must this season.
