Gavin Extense to Meet Fans at Central Library

The award-winning author will visit the Manchester Central Library to talk about his new book, as well as sign copies of it at a free event on the 11th of March.

'The Mirror World of Melody Black', Gavin's new book, is the topic of discussion. There will also be the opportunity to have their books signed by the man himself.

Gavin's first novel, 'The Universe Versus Alex Woods' won the Writers Guide Best Book 2013, was selected as Richard and Judy Summer Book Club Read and was in the top ten of Amazon best book of 2013.

His new novel has already received a flurry of positive reviews and features in February's Radio 2 Book Club choice.

Gavin said: "This will be one of the first events where I get to talk to an audience about my new book, and my first ever event in Manchester, so I'm really looking forward to it."

Born in 1982, Extense grew up in the village of Swineshead, Linconlshire. As a child he was a chess champion, winning a number of national championships - even travelling to Russia to cross swords with the finest young minds they have to offer.

After the completion of a PhD in film studies and unable to find employment, Gavin started writing his first novel with assistance from his cat. Gavin couldn't afford to run the heating, so his cat would sit on his knee while he worked, which helped to keep them both warm.

Previously saying he loves being surrounded by books, Gavin should feel at home on his visit to Central Library - if he hadn't been a writer, he would have liked to be a librarian.

Councillor Rosa Battle, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, said: "We are pleased to host Gavin, a successful new author, at Central Library. Gavin's new book raises the question of what it is like to live with bipolar disorder- a condition which affects many people. After the success of his first book, which also challenged social taboos, I'm sure the talk about 'The Mirror World of Melody Black' will be a lively and engaging event. "

The event is free but will be ticketed - bookings can be made online at www.gavinextence.eventbrite.co.uk, or by calling 0161 234 1056.
