Spooky Winter Activities in Manchester

Markets, film screenings and ice skating are getting all the attention at the moment in Manchester, but there are also some other, more ‘unconventional’ events to be enjoyed around the city during this time of the year.

Ghost Stories

People have been telling ghost stories at Christmas for hundreds of years, feeling the need to gather together and reflect on the people that are no longer with them. This tradition that dates back to the Victorian age, can be now enjoyed in Manchester at the ‘Ghost Stories at Christmas’ event.

Organised by HAUNT Manchester in collaboration with Manchester Writing School and Manchester School of Art, this family-friendly event will be packed with ghostly tales told by three speakers, as well as free mince pies and mulled wine for the adults.

‘Ghost Stories at Christmas’ is a free event that takes place at Marketplace Studios, located in Stockport’s historic Market Square in the Old Town district. Stockport is well-known for a few creepy ghost stories such as the 1974 taxi driver that suddenly saw an elderly woman on the back seat. When he pulled over and turned to ask her how she got inside the car, the woman had vanished…

Psychic Parties

People are becoming increasingly curious about the mystical and it seems fitting that they want to find a place for it in their lives. For those intrigued by spirituality, why not organise a Psychic party over the Christmas period.

People can hire tarot, palm, crystal ball or psychic readers for their home parties, events, work do’s and even weddings. Depending on the type of party and how much people are willing to pay, guests can have clear tarot readings individually or just a few short ones for the group. However, organising such a party requires careful planning and budgeting, so if you’re thinking about hosting a Psychic Christmas Party make sure you know all the ups and downs of it.

Escape Rooms

With the most exciting escape rooms in Manchester, Escape Hunt is hosting Christmas parties now as well. People can choose from three exclusive festive packages that offer access to the VIP lounge, a specialised event game master, 60 minutes of gameplay, welcome drinks, mince pies and much more.

There are four games to choose from - The Last Vikings, a world in which the Ice Giants are destroying a Viking village and the only chance of survival is to call for the Norse Gods; Blackbeard’s Treasure, a Caribbean pirate adventure in which players are stuck on a sinking ship; Escape the Wild West, a Wild West experience that requires teamwork to get an old locomotive going and escape the bandits; and The Fourth Samurai, set in Ancient Japan when a team of warriors must destroy a mystical sword in order to survive. There is nothing more exciting than an evening packed with adrenaline, trying to solve a set of clues in order to escape ‘death’.

Although enjoying a cup of mulled wine and a bratwurst at the Manchester Christmas market is definitely a must-do, it is also nice to know that there are options for those who want to try new things this Christmas.
