The Watersons HALE 10K

After a hugely successful inaugural race in 2022, the Watersons HALE 10K is set to take place again on Sunday 19th February 2023.

Registrations are proving extremely popular, with the organisers expecting to see 1,500+ new and experienced runners gather in the centre of the picturesque village to enjoy the 10K ‘closed road’ race.

Previous race winners Ex GB Olympian Ross Millington, and Sophie Wood have already re-entered this year’s event and competition is clearly hotting up with competitors from as far north as Edinburgh and as far south as Cornwall!

The impressive route has been perfected over seven years by event founder and Hale resident, Mark Durston, and will take participants through Hale village and out into the countryside of Ashley, along scenic lanes and out to the magnificent Ashley Hall where the race will end.

A shorter 3K run will also be staged in the grounds of the magnificent country house, appealing to the younger runners and those simply looking to enjoy a shorter distance.

The Watersons HALE 10k once again supports The Toy Appeal, a fantastic charity that provides sacks of toys to thousands of children living in poverty at Christmas. £2 of each entrance fee goes directly to the charity. Entrants looking to further support The Toy Appeal are encouraged to make a small donation when registering.

For those needing a little extra motivation there is £1,500 in prize money to be won, product prizes and a trophy for the first man and first woman over the finishing line. Prizes are awarded to Open (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) and winners of multiple age categories 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+, 60+ and 70+ years male and female categories.

All finishers will receive a bespoke commemorative race medal and D-Tag timing chips will record every participant’s individual race time.

Entries for the Watersons HALE 10K are open now. Entry rates cost from £23pp for the 10K race and £10pp for the 3K race. To secure your place or find out more information visit

Founder and Managing Director of Sensation Group, Mark Durston said: “The North-West is home to some of the world’s best sports teams and events. With the Watersons HALE 10K we are bringing something new to the sports calendar with an inclusive, family friendly and yet challenging event. As a keen runner I have firsthand knowledge of the area and I believe it provides the perfect 10K route for the area, combined with a superb shorter 3K at Ashley Hall, the event is proving to be a fantastic family day out for the calendar.”

Peter Waterson, Owner and Managing Director of Watersons independent estate agents, headline sponsor of the HALE 10K, said: “I am extremely proud that Watersons has served the people of Hale, Altrincham and the surrounding areas for over 20 years.  Having lived in the village all my life and as a regular Altrincham & District Athletic Club runner I have wanted to be able to do something for my community and as such the HALE 10K was right up my street.  We jumped at the chance to get involved for the first race and after its great success didn’t hesitate to continue our support as headline sponsor again for another year.”

Starting on Hale’s most prestigious roads, crossing the iconic railway tracks and running through the heart of Hale village gives the race a memorable start, with the impressive Ashley Hall, providing the perfect grounds in which to finish for an annual event such as this.

The Watersons HALE 10K is a wonderful day out for participants and spectators alike with entertainment at key intervals along the route including the start line, clock tower (1.4k), Watersons independent estate agents (1.8k), halfway mark & water station (Castle Mill Lane), The Greyhound (8.8k) and the finish at Ashley Hall.

The 10K race starts in Hale village at 10.15am and the 3K race at Ashley Hall at 9am. Participants attending from outside the area can enjoy plenty of parking at Ashley Hall, ensuring that their cars will be ready and waiting for them at the end of the event. Parking in the immediate surrounding area will be limited with road closures in place from 8:45am to 12:00.
