City Cruise to League Cup Success

City Cruise to League Cup Success

Arsenal were no match for Man City at Wembley as Pep Guardiola continued his impressive record in finals, winning 10 out of 11. Aguero, Kompany and Silva were on target as the Premier League leaders dominated from start to finish.

City started brightly, passing the ball around and looking very sharp. However, it was Arsenal who had the first real chance of the game when Wilshere drove forward at pace before Aubameyang was found in the box. The January signing looked certain to score but Bravo came to the rescue with a sharp save, even though the striker really should have scored.

City continued to press and took the lead in the 18th minute, just not in the fashion you have come to expect this season. Bravo launched a goal kick over the Arsenal backline for Aguero to latch onto, the Argentine did just that and chipped the Gunners keeper with ease.

The rest of the first half saw little action, City dominated the ball but Arsenal attempted to catch them on the counter.

Other than a deflected Kompany volley that narrowly went past Ospina's post, there wasn't a lot to talk about in the early stages of the second half. Claudio Bravo and David Ospina then had a competition to see who could make their fans more nervous, Bravo charging out and missing the ball completely, then Ospina failing to deal with a dodgy back pass.

In the 58th minute City doubled their lead. Kompany won a corner with some lovely footwork, rolling back the years. From the resulting corner, De Bruyne found Gundogan on the edge of the box, his shot was then deflected in by probably the most popular player in the ground, Vincent Kompany.

The Citizens continued to pass the ball around and extended their lead in the 65th minute. Patient build up created an opening for David Silva, Danilo firing a ball into the little Spaniard who spun his man brilliantly before lashing into the far corner.

After starting slowly for their high standards, it was a real team display by City. Silva impressed on the ball and Kompany showed why he is still one of the greatest centre backs we have had in recent years in the Premier League.
